Technical focus

Six special interest groups bring the community together. Five themes set the challenges we will address.

Special interest groups

  • Semiconductor processing and design

The UK III-V design and manufacturing community, complementing silicon CMOS (semiconductor IKCs, IMEC/Europractice, Silicon Catalyst).

  • Packaging, interconnects and printed circuits

PCBs and additive electronics, from low-loss GHz links to high-power and harsh-environment systems, including cryogenic quantum interconnects.

  • Emerging and large-area electronics

Linking new organic, soft and tunable material formulations to electromagnetic characterisation and end-user needs.

  • Adaptive and functional materials

Sensing, thermal management, electrical and mechanical co-design, and metamaterials, working with UKMMN+.

  • Metrology for reproducible discovery

Turning new materials into testable devices to measure mobility, dielectric and high-frequency properties. Championed by NPL.

  • Digital and AI-driven design

Self-driving labs for materials synthesis, and electromagnetic, circuit and multiphysics modelling.

Community leads wanted

Each special interest group needs community leads. We encourage applications from all career stages.
